An Osteopathic Approch to Vomiting and Regurgitation in Relation to the Birth / Eloise Zeller
Titre : An Osteopathic Approch to Vomiting and Regurgitation in Relation to the Birth Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Eloise Zeller, Auteur ; Alex SPENCE, Directeur de la recherche Editeur : BRITISH SCHOOL OSTEOPATHY Année de publication : 2000 Importance : 41 pages + les annexes Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Mémoire :AO Résumé : This study explores the possibility of a relation between symptoms such as vomiting and regurgitation in newborn babies, and anatomic-physiologic disturbances of PRM. The PRM is a concept of Dr Sutherland, postulaltng that a "rhythmic cranial motion, palpable externally and amenable to recording, is the combined effect of the inherent mobility of the CNS, the fluctuation of the CSF, the mobility of the cranial bones and of the sacrum between the ilia, and the mobility of the reciprocal tension membranes. Therefore, specal attention has been directed to the state of ossifocation of the cranium and especially to the developental parts of the cranial base. The mechanism of labour nromal and abnormal has been considered as a possible cause of dysfunction of the cranio-sacral mechanism. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to the fourth year students of the ESO who treat infants suffering from those symptoms. A percentage study and chi-squared tests were employed to analyse the results. The results of this study suggest no clear correlation between vomiting, regurgitation ans CBL. A inadequate sample size has not allowed a valid statistical study. However, it suggests that strain patterns within the four parts of the occiput on one side or un other, and therefore the possible vagal irritation, are of significance in the production of vomiting or regurgitation. The study seems to prove that an abnormal birth has a high influence on the production of cranial lesions. A larger sample would allow a more accurate analysis of the profile of babies presenting with vomiting or regurgitation (le résumé existe en français) An Osteopathic Approch to Vomiting and Regurgitation in Relation to the Birth [texte imprimé] / Eloise Zeller, Auteur ; Alex SPENCE, Directeur de la recherche . - BRITISH SCHOOL OSTEOPATHY, 2000 . - 41 pages + les annexes.
